We cannot help Betty…

You remember. Betty lives with her four-member family in the Kibera slum in Nairobi. She is a housewife, her husband earns small income with occasional labor. Therefore the economic situation of the family is quite difficult. With an intact marriage, life would still be manageable if the following medical problem wouldn’t overshadow the families live:

Four years ago, Betty noticed a sudden disturbance of equilibrium (vertigo) with increasing intensity. Ever since, it is increasingly difficult for her to walk straight or to stand on one foot. Additionally her hearing capacity and eyesight are impaired and she suffers recently from severe headache accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

A computer tomography funded by TULISA and subsequent magnetic resonance imaging of the head did not showed any relevant findings. The involved neurologist couldn’t find an exact diagnosis either. Cortisone therapy did not improve the situation.

Tulisa has now exhausted all the local possibilities. Betty may suffer from a degenerative or inflammatory brain disease which is not treatable in Kenya with currently available resources. Betty receives now a symptomatic treatment of the headache and dizziness.

Thank you very much all donors who made the diagnosis possible. We hoped for a better outcome.
